The Heirloom Index

Accessibility

Every page here should work for every reader, however they read it.

What we aim for

We build The Heirloom Index to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard most widely used for websites. In practice that means text is measured for contrast rather than judged by eye, every page can be used with a keyboard alone and shows clearly where you are, card photographs carry a description a screen reader can announce, and our forms say what went wrong and take you to the field that needs it.

How we check

We test our most-visited pages with automated accessibility tools and then by hand, including with a keyboard. When we find a problem, we fix it in the site itself; we do not use add-on accessibility widgets.

Where we know we fall short

Some charts on The Market and The Radar are easier to read by sight than with a screen reader, and our downloadable PDFs may not be fully readable by assistive technology. If you need anything here in another form, write to us and we will send it.

Tell us

If something on the site does not work for you, we would be grateful to hear about it. Write to support@theheirloomindex.com with the page and what happened. A person reads every message, and we reply within two business days.
