The most famous portrait in the hobby's most famous set, and the one card we will not put a number on. A T206 Cobb is not one card but dozens: the same red portrait was printed against the advertising backs of Piedmont, Sweet Caporal, Polar Bear, Old Mill, Hindu, Broad Leaf, Carolina Brights and — rarest of all — Cobb's own tobacco brand. The image is identical; the values are not, running from a few thousand dollars to the better part of half a million. What separates them is printed on the side nobody photographs. A house that priced this card from the front of it would be guessing, and would eventually be wrong by a factor of fifty. So we keep him here instead, where he belongs anyway.
It lives in the Vault for that reason — a card to be admired and understood, not chased on a given afternoon. No live price, no link to buy. Just the history.
