The 1987 season was shortened by a players' strike, and Jerry Rice missed four games besides. In the twelve he played, he caught 22 touchdown passes, a single-season record at the time. He was the AP's Offensive Player of the Year, the first wide receiver to win it, and won the Most Valuable Player awards of the Pro Football Writers and the NEA; in the AP's MVP voting he finished second.
Twenty-two touchdowns in twelve games, and a Topps All Pro card to follow.
Topps's 1988 set has 396 cards and puts no team name on the front. The player is known by his name and his team's helmet. Rice's card is #43.
The picture is a close-up: Rice in the gold 49ers helmet and red jersey, looking up past the camera, with a TOPPS ALL PRO badge and a 49ers helmet in the lower corner and JERRY RICE, WR, at the foot. Orange rounds the corners of the frame, inside a white border.
The record has its own card in the set, #6, a Record Breaker for the most touchdown receptions in a season.
The white border makes any centering fault easy to see.
