Topps printed its 1962 football set of 176 cards on sheets of 264, so half the set was printed twice and the other half only once. Jim Brown's #28 is one of the short prints.
The card is horizontal and framed in black, divided by heavy black rules into three panels. On the left, a black-and-white action photograph over a yellow box that reads JIMMY BROWN, CLEVE. BROWNS, FULLBACK. On the right, larger and in color, Brown in the brown jersey, number 32, holding the ball in both hands against an open sky.
Black borders show every touch, and this one is a short print besides.
The small black-and-white picture is a familiar one. It is the photograph from his 1961 highlight card, Brown running in white with the defense closing, used again.
The 1962 season was the exception in his career. He ran for 996 yards, the only one of his nine seasons in which he did not lead the league.
Black borders show every touch. Wear and chipping along the edges are the rule on this set, and centering is a common problem besides.
