Bowman's 1993 set was made for prospect hunters: 708 cards, nearly 200 of them rookie cards, Andy Pettitte's only rookie card among them. Derek Jeter is #511, a regular card on glossy stock, not one of the foils.
He is in a navy NEW YORK Yankees practice shirt and gray pants, bent at the knees in a shortstop's ready crouch, glove open, with a green wall behind him. The Bowman logo sits in the upper corner and DEREK JETER in tall Western lettering at the foot, inside a plain white border.
A shortstop's crouch, in a practice shirt, a year after the draft.
The back has a second photograph, a relaxed one with Jeter smiling, and a short scouting report, since a player that young had few statistics to show.
Foil cards came one to a pack, and jumbo boxes carried an oversize card on top.
That year he was at Greensboro, in Class A. He hit .295 there and was named the league's All-League shortstop.
