Topps's 1993 set was its biggest yet, 825 cards, and its first in two series since 1973. Derek Jeter is in the first, at #98, among the draft-pick cards, and it is his first Topps card.
1992 DRAFT PICK runs across the top. Jeter is caught in the middle of a throw, glove arm out, in a navy Yankees jersey and pinstriped pants, set against a drawing of a green infield, with the Topps logo at the side and his name in a blue oval at the bottom.
Mid-throw, on a drawing of an infield: the draft pick, a year in.
He had been the Yankees' first pick that June, sixth overall, and had signed in time for a short first summer in the Gulf Coast League.
Topps Gold versions, with a gold-foil logo and nameplate, came one to a wax pack, and there are factory-set versions stamped for the new Marlins and Rockies. The card pictured is the regular one.
Three years later he was the Yankees' shortstop, the unanimous Rookie of the Year and a world champion.
